Deals and Shenanigans. What I really liked about the book was that even though the characters and the situation was quite different from the TV-series, there was moments that I really could see similarities. I realize it isn't a novel so I didn't expect it to be a book with linear form.

I was definitely able to separate it from the TV series and it could be because I'm a writer myself and I can read it while understanding that the adaptation wasn't a literal one--and a good screenwriter takes as much as they can from the text but in the end successfully translates the story to appeal to the audience of the visual medium.
No character development. Education Music teachers, fearing a lost generation of performers, are forced to improvise. If you love the series - do not read the book. While there are certainly a variety of similarities this is grittier and a bit more honest and in your face than the tv show.
